With over 200 kilometres of coastline, the province of Alicante is one of Europe's most generously endowed regions when it comes to beaches. But not all beaches are created equal, and when you are travelling with young children, the choice of beach can make or break a holiday day.
1. Playa de Levante, Benidorm
The undisputed queen of family beaches on the Costa Blanca, Levante Beach in Benidorm stretches for nearly two kilometres of fine, pale sand with calm, gentle surf that is perfect for young swimmers. Sun loungers and pedalos are available for hire, and lifeguards patrol the beach throughout the summer season.
2. Playa de El Cura, Torrevieja
Torrevieja's El Cura beach is a Blue Flag favourite and consistently ranks among the best urban beaches in Spain. The water is exceptionally calm — protected by a natural breakwater — making it perfect for young children. The beach is equipped with accessible ramps, shower facilities, and a lifeguard service throughout the high season.
3. Playa de la Albufereta, Alicante
Just 2 kilometres north of Alicante city centre, La Albufereta is a sheltered, crescent-shaped beach that never feels as overcrowded as Postiguet. The shallow, gradually shelving seabed means children can wade far from the shore while still feeling safe.
4. Playa Les Deveses, Dénia
This wide, beautifully maintained beach north of Dénia is a favourite with local families. Backed by low dunes and pine trees that provide welcome natural shade, Les Deveses has the feel of a truly unspoilt beach despite offering all the facilities you need.
5. Playa de Poniente, Benidorm
Benidorm's second great beach, Poniente, stretches for three kilometres along the western edge of the town. It tends to be slightly less busy than Levante, with wonderful afternoon and evening light and spectacular sunset views.
6. Playa del Acequión, Torrevieja
Running south from the main town centre, the Acequión beach offers a long, wide stretch of sand with calm, shallow water. This beach has excellent accessibility features, including beach wheelchairs available for loan, and is one of the most inclusive beaches on the Costa Blanca. 7. Playa de la Olla, Altea
